Augsburger Linux-Info Tag

Last weekend 4 users from south germany manned a booth at Augsburger Linux-Info Tag. Michael Singer (bluelupo), who had also been at CLT a week before, had organized the booth for us. He was accompanied by Lars Lünnemann (Spike_DE), Roland Lang (vindeliker), Marco Schmidt (anitainer) and Peter Ziegler (harley-peter). Thanks a lot, guys. It seems to have been a nice event.

Linux Conventions

On the last weekend we made our first official gig as siduction at CLT 2012. We shared a space with Debian, as we used to before, so the only difference was the name. Of course we heard a lot of jokes about another change of names and also people asking for the reasons. We answered those as best we could and there was no negative reactions. We had quite many intersted visitors and many interesting talks with people from other projects. As always, CLT was perfectly organized, so my thanks go to the orga team. You can tell, that they understand the needs of the linux crowd, which cannot be said of all conventions. We had a lot of fun. My thanks also go to towo, ab_ , bluelupo and ralfi for manning our booth.

Today i got notice that our application for the project siduction qualified for a sponsored booth at this year’s LinuxTag in Berlin from May 23 -26. We will share a big booth with Debian and Kanotix, as last year. QT-Project might join us as well.

Background to that is, that we plan to do a release of our razor-qt flavour live at our booth and show on a big TFT, how such a release is done. All this will happen during a release-party on the evening of May 23. Hopefuly razor-qt will be in shape for at lease a development release by then.

Plans for siduction 2012.1

In our last Core-Meeting on Sunday night we tried to win first perspectives for our 2nd release, siduction 2012.1 ‘Desperado’. Up to now it is just vague ideas, but as feature freeze is on April 1, we have to substantiate these ideas soon. We are testing Network-Manager at the moment and if it has improved enough to do what we need, we will ship it. We need to find a way to keep ceni enabled though for those who prefer to use that.

The state of razorqt in a month from now needs to be seen, right now it still needs some improvement even for a developement-release. It works fine with kwin, but that is not the idea. It should make use of openbox or eggwm, and both are as of now a bit flaky. So razorqt might be delayed to 2012.2.

In other news, we will have our first official appearance on the upcoming weekend with a booth, neighbouring the debian one on CLT 2012. Thanks to the success of our donation-sprint we have all the PR material we need plus we can offer t-shirts and usb-sticks to our visistors. We also had all the hardware we need donated. If you are in the area, feel free to come see us and say hello.

So what’s new?

Due to totaly unexpected, but nonetheless positive things popping into my private life, I have not been posting for some days now. On the other hand, there was no immediate need to do so. So today lets see what is new.

Our donation-sprint was an overwhelming success, thank you all very much for that. Details can be found on our forum. Besides the money we also got a slim PC and a monitor for use at Linux Fairs as donations. Thanks much for that as well.

In our last core-meeting we voted on some designs for PR stuff and on the codename for our next release 2012.1, which will be ‘Desperado’, named after a classic by the Eagles. Thank you for all the proposals from the community.

With choosing a name for 2012.1 we also entered the release-cycle for that release. For now we are trying to set a date and schedule and see, whats on the menu. More on this soon to come.
